Marked by a peculiarly negative character: the adjacent inspiring register cut all ties with it, and it returns from exile as the personality's nemesis and foil. Its contributions are conveniently forgotten; every sign of its agency is treated as encroachment. It offers no reward for its defeat other than the right to continue living: the riddling Gollum, the Oedipal sphinx. The 'S' in Pierce's D(-S) notation. Containment, not integration, is the work; the nemesis is SURVIVED.

The two failure directions
Every position fails in two directions: too much control (walled, refused) or too little (overrun, erupted). The two feed each other in a loop; the correction is always the opposite motion.
The eruption: The Feud is surrender in slow motion: white-knuckle suppression secretly feeds the appetite it fights, and the binge arrives as Indulgence.
The crackdown returns: The morning after re-arms the war: shame over the binge tightens the suppression, and the Feud resumes harder than before.

Private conviction (Fi) sits in the nemesis position for ENTP and ESTP. Their recurring temptation is moral self-exemption, but this unyielding inner mandate acts as a dangerous beast. They must rely on their analytical framework to tread behind this feeling with impeccable conduct, surviving the encounter without provoking a bite.
Execution (Te) sits in the nemesis position for ISFJ and INFJ, appearing as hexagram 60, Limitation. They experience objective metrics as a hostile encroachment and must learn to limit the limitation itself, ensuring that strict measures do not strangle their relational warmth.
