Starvation (too much control): Refused, the tension never breaks. The unexpected opening is declined, past grievances are held onto instead of pardoned, and life locks into the immediate present.

The trial is the recurrent disruption of possibility: the new offer, the unexpected fork, the door that opens when the present-tense pattern has hardened; the Swashbuckler who learns to take the unexpected possibility rather than insist on the stuck pattern matures across cycles.
The trap
When present contact (Se) combines with execution (Te) without private conviction (Fi), action becomes a string of high-impact wins with no check on whether they still matter personally. The result is restless activity and sincere regret without lasting change.
Under pressure
Doubles down on intensity: bigger stunts, coarser pleasures, rasher spending of self; then dark Ni (the long reading) premonitions: ominous certainty that something terrible is coming, paranoid readings of hidden meanings.
Growth
The typical order of development: build the auxiliary, receive the inspiring, contain the nemesis, and engage the trial that matures the primitive. The failure loop runs on rare, extreme contact; growth keeps the contact frequent and mild, so nothing builds up to erupt.
auxiliary: Practice Fi (private conviction) as craft: pause long enough to ask whether the next move still matches what you actually care about, beyond what is vivid right now.
inspiring: Let Te (execution) come from outside: a shared scoreboard, a coach, a deadline you did not invent. Metrics can serve the life without becoming it.
nemesis: When Ti (strict definition) shows up as hairsplitting or rulebook talk, name the itch, use a short consistency check, and refuse to wage a moral war on "overthinking."
